"I’m thrilled to have invested in Memphis Meats,” Branson said in an email in response to questions from Bloomberg News. “I believe that in 30 years or so we will no longer need to kill any animals and that all meat will either be clean or plant-based, taste the same and also be much healthier for everyone.”
This is the latest move by an agricultural giant to respond to consumers, especially Millennials, who are rapidly leaving their mark on the U.S. food world. That’s happening through surging demand for organic products, increasing focus on food that’s considered sustainable and greater attention on animal treatment. Big poultry and livestock processors have started to take up alternatives to traditional meat.
“The world loves to eat meat, and it is core to many of our cultures and traditions,” Uma Valeti, co-founder and chief executive officer of Memphis Meats, said in the statement. “The way conventional meat is produced today creates challenges for the environment, animal welfare and human health. These are problems that everyone wants to solve.”
To date, Memphis Meats has raised $22 million, signaling a commitment to the “clean-meat movement,” the company said.
Cargill has “taken an equity position in Memphis Meats’ first series of funding,” Sonya Roberts, the president of growth ventures at Cargill Protein, said in an email, without disclosing the investment amount.
“Our equity position with Memphis Meats gives Cargill entry into the cultured protein market and allows us to work together to further innovate and commercialize,” Roberts said. “We believe that consumers will continue to crave meat, and we aim to bring it to the table, as sustainably and cost-effectively as we can. Cultured meats and conventionally produced meats will both play a role in meeting that demand.”
The investment is just the most recent by traditional meat companies. Tyson Foods Inc., the largest U.S. meat producer, has created a venture capital fund focused on investing in companies “to sustainably feed” the world’s growing population and in December announced a stake in plant-based protein producer Beyond Meat, which counts Gates among its early funders.

The house is in such good condition, the archeologists say they will be able to completely reconstruct the building.
They have also discovered a public bath with a statue of Hercules and a fountain, as well as another vast floor mosaic adorned with the mythological figures of Pan and Thalia.
“We’re unbelievably lucky,” team leader Benjamin Clément told AFP news agency. "This is undoubtedly the most exceptional excavation of a Roman site in 40 or 50 years,

During its prime, the city is believed to have been home to dozens of shops, artisan workshops, warehouses, quays, philosophy schools, gymnasiums, and homes.
The Roman settlement blossomed for at least 300 years until it eventually succumbed to a series of fires.
"It's a marketplace that has been totally burned down, so you can find all the elements in the shops that the craftsmen had left behind to escape the flames," Clément told Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency.

This post contains spoilers from the season finale. The last season finale we'll ever see aired last night, and just about every single scene had people fans losing it. I don't think I've yelled so much at a TV since the Red Wedding, but this time I was screaming with glee because of all the sh*t that went down. Little Finger. Sansa and Arya. Gilly being right. Rhaegar and Lyanna's wedding. Jaime leaving Cersei. . (I'm not going to talk about the last scene because it's still a fresh wound.) Never have I ever been a fan of incest, but now I'm a stan. But guys, let's be real. There was one true star of last night's episode, and that star was Jon Snow's butt. And Twitter is essentially bending its metaphorical knee to it.
If we were debating whether or not to bend the knee to this whole incest thing, we sure as hell are bending it now. We're just on the floor. After an entire season of build up, Jon and Dany finally hooked up and it was a sight to behold. Yeah, sure, Bran's narrations over top the Jon and Dany sex scene was pretty damning, considering the fact that it's now confirmed that Jon has more claim to the Iron Throne than Dany, and you know, SHE'S HIS AUNT AND EVERYTHING, but we'll worry about that in two years when the final season of starts.
But for now, I'm going to rewatch that finale about 20 more times until I get my fill, and then I'm going to write a strongly worded letter to HBO demanding that they don't ruin Jon and Dany's relationship in the final season. Listen, people, if I'm going to support incest, this sh*t is going to be endgame! None of this “we're going to build up this relationship and these characters and make you feel a fiery passion for them, and then, when you least expect it, we're going to murder them” bullsh*t we've had in past seasons.
