It's an exciting time to be watching television, not least because we're seeing more and more representation of different ideas and communities. In a series of videos with the hashtag #FirstTimeISawMe, actors of color from Netflix share their experiences with visibility and representation and what it means to them as artists.

"My goal on a daily basis is to inspire people that are like me," says actor DeRon Howard. "I have to set a good example."

Howard and his costars from Dear White People talk about how grateful they are to have a show featuring varied, complex roles for black actors not only to give them good jobs, but to raise the bar for future shows.

"I want to continue to have the doors that have been opened for me I've gotta hold them for the next person behind me," says Logan Browning.

"I've had moments where people say 'You're pretty for a dark-skinned girl'," recalls Antoinette Robertson. "All that stuff has to stop, and I feel like the only way it's going to stop is if we empower the generation after us."

Dear White People is streaming on Netflix and working on a second season.
