Selena Gomez's people are calling The Weeknd a bad liar.
As we reported, lyrics off the R&B star's new album sparked speculation that he considered donating a kidney to his then-girlfriend at the height of her lupus battle. But a source has come forward to say that's not the case!
The buzz began thanks to The Weeknd's new song Call Out My Name, which contains the telling lyrics, "I almost cut a piece of myself for your life/ Guess I was just another pit stop/ Til you made up your mind/ You just wasted my time."

Some speculated that these poetic lines were a reference to Selly's kidney transplant, which went down a few months before the couple broke up. A source tells ET, however, that the singer (real name Abel Tesfaye) was never even CLOSE to being the former Disney darling's kidney donor, and claims the Starboy just penned a pointed lyric so y'all would think otherwise!
"It's just a lyric and he knew it would strum up attention and that people would interpret it exactly as they have, but he was never actually going to donate his kidney to Selena. Sure, he was her boyfriend at the time, so it perhaps crossed his mind to get tested to see if he was a match — which is incredibly rare — but it never got anywhere close to actually happening."
As we all know, Selena's close friend Francia Raisa ended up donating a kidney to her last summer. A complicated surgery that, the source adds, the 25-year-old would never ask her famous boyfriend to go through:
"Selena would never, ever have asked [The Weeknd]. She wouldn't have even wanted him to even entertain the idea! It was difficult enough for her to allow a lifelong friend to do it, but a new boyfriend? No way."
But here's where the cut goes even deeper: the source claims that Selena and Abel's 10-month relationship was not as serious as his new album My Dear Melancholy suggests. The insider continued:
"To be honest, they were never as intense as he's making it seem. The Weeknd was always much more concerned with his career than his relationship. Selena leaned on friends and family during the surgery more than anyone."
Huh. Sounds like The Weeknd is just a wee bit melodramatic in the relationship department.
