Jessica Chastain concluded her time as a jury member of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival by speaking openly about a pattern she discovered "rather troubling" after seeing 20 movies in 10 days.
"The something I actually eliminated from this experience is how the world views ladies, from the female characters that I saw represented," Chastain stated throughout an interview.
"And it was rather troubling to me to be truthful," she continued.
The star's remarks followed Sofia Coppola made history as the 2nd female ever to win Best Director at the sought after movie celebration.
Coppola was honored for her work directing " The Beguiled ," a remake of the 1971 Civil War drama about a hurt Yankee soldier who looks for shelter at an all-girls boarding school in rural Virginia. The movie stars Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning, Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice and Colin Farrell.
The starlet fasted to mention that there were some exceptions to exactly what she saw. "But for one of the most part, I was amazed with the representation of female characters on screen in these movies," she included.
Chastain's remarks quickly went viral, with more female leaders in the show business commemorating her sincerity.
The star concluded her remarks by requiring the celebration to consist of more female filmmakers so the jury can view ladies "that are proactive, have their own firm [and] do not simply respond to the guys around them."
Chastain has actually been a singing advocate for females in home entertainment, speaking up about the gender wage space that pesters the market. In April, the "Zero Dark Thirty" star stated in an interview with Variety that she not accepts functions unless she understands exactly what the male stars are making.
