Jennifer Lawrence is a poster girl for women everywhere. Often referred to as “America’s Sweetheart”, the 27-year-old actress has been vocal in her disregard for Hollywood’s beauty standards.

A self-confessed food addict, J-Law isn’t shy about her weight, which often grabs headlines in Hollywood. “In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress,” she told ELLE in 2012, when he career was just starting to snowball. “I eat like a caveman. I’ll be the only actress that doesn’t have anorexia rumors! I’m never going to starve myself for a part.” However, her determination to “eat like a caveman” has caused difficult moments in her career. Something that the Oscar-winning actress opened up about when giving a speech at ELLE‘s Women In Hollywood Celebration. When Lawrence was a fledgling actress, she was met with criticism from casting agents and producers who required her to lose weight for roles. However, there was one particular occasion that left The Hunger Games actress particularly “humiliated”. In her speech, Lawrence recalled a time when she was just started out as an actress and was asked by a female producer to lose 15 pounds in two weeks.

“When I was much younger and starting out, I was told by producers of a film to lose 15 pounds in two weeks. During this time a female producer had me do a nude line-up with about five women who were much, much, thinner than me. We are stood side-by-side with only tape on covering our privates.”

“After that degrading and humiliating line-up, the female producer told me I should use the naked photos of myself as inspiration for my diet.”

Lawrence then went on to explain how she told another producer that she was uncomfortable with the demand that she lose weight. “He said he didn’t know why everyone thought I was so fat, he thought I was ‘perfectly f***able’,” she said, before adding: “I let myself be treated a certain way because I felt I had to for my career.” “In a perfect world, every human being should have the power to be treated with respect because they’re human,” an emotional Lawrence told the audience. Her story comes in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, which is still dramatically unfolding in Hollywood. Lawrence, who previously worked with Weinstein on Silver Linings Playbook for which she won an Oscar, also spoke out against the disgraced movie executive.

“I worked with Harvey five years ago and I did not experience any form of harassment personally, nor did I know about any of these allegations. This kind of abuse is inexcusable and absolutely upsetting. My heart goes out to all of the women affected by these gross actions. And I want to thank them for their bravery to come forward.”

Lawrence has previously spoken out against Weinstein in an interview with Variety, in which she said: “I was deeply disturbed to hear the news about Harvey Weinstein’s behavior. This kind of abuse is inexcusable and absolutely upsetting.” Despite the difficulties she has faced, there is no denying that Lawrence’s career is flying high. Her films have grossed a staggering $5.5 billion worldwide and in 2015 and 2016, she was the highest-paid actress in the world. However, more recently she has been most prominent in the news as rumors circulate that she is engaged to her movie director beau, Darren Aronofsky, whom she met whilst filming her latest film, Mother! Watch this video for more details on the rumors:
