Ann Coulter Offers Her *Incredibly* Scientific Thoughts On What Caused Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey was caused by natural meteorological processes, and made worse by climate change.

This normally wouldn’t need clarification, but then again, this article is about Ann Coulter, a bellicose right-wing American commentator and star of Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, who is known, along with many other things, for hating on the science behind climate change. It seems that Harvey has provided her with plenty of new material.

“I don't believe Hurricane Harvey is God's punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor,” Coulter explained on Twitter, apropos of nothing at all. “But that is more credible than ‘climate change.’”

Now that’s inarguably quite the statement. It’s frankly amazing, in the way a train crash is “amazing.” It’s obviously meant as a humorous attempt to imply that climate change is akin to a mythological beast, with a side of homophobia thrown in, but because any rational person knows that climate change is a scientific fact, this tweet comes across as somewhat unhinged.

Here’s a fun fact: Annise Parker served as the 61st Mayor of Houston from 2010 until 2016, and was one of the first openly gay mayors of a major US city. Here’s another fun fact: she definitely didn’t cause Hurricane Harvey. She does not have supervillain-esque powers.

In any case, we shouldn’t be surprised. Coulter is known for saying a range of truly mind-blowing things on a plethora of subjects, including – sadly – science. Just after the Fukushima nuclear power plant experienced a partial meltdown, Coulter felt compelled to claim that excessive radiation is actually not so bad after all.

“There is a growing body of evidence that radiation in excess of what the government says are the minimum amounts we should be exposed to are actually good for you and reduce cases of cancer,” she remarked at the time. By “growing body of evidence,” we suspect she means “no evidence whatsoever,” but that’s fine.

Climate change appears to get the brunt of her anti-scientific fury though. She once tweeted that “according to the MSM [mainstream media], all evil is now caused by Russians or global warming.” Huh?

Anyway. We’ll leave you to digest that rather staggering tweet regarding Harvey. We’d have thought that, with all her experience acting as the Vice President in that previously mentioned movie, Coulter would be relieved that the hurricane over Texas wasn’t full of sharks.
