If someone were to tell you that the Earth is soon to end, you may be inclined to believe them. As hurricanes rampage across the globe and North Korea prepares their nuclear weapons, it is easy to assume that the world as we know it may be coming to an end. So, when it was reported that NASA had confirmed the world was about to perish, people listened with intense interest.

But, there was a sinister side to the story that even NASA couldn’t have predicted… The report, which surfaced last year, claimed that NASA had issued a worrying warning which claimed that “Planet X” would clash with Earth’s orbit, with devastating consequences. It was stated that the newly discovered planet, which many argue doesn’t actually exist, takes 15,000 years to orbit the sun and that its full orbit was almost complete. Worryingly, Earth sits in its path. A collision between the two planets would be catastrophic in any form, however, it became more alarming when it was reported that the Planet X is 10 times the size of Earth. The report even stated that NASA spokesperson, Heather Cartwright, had said the following:

“Although our scientists at NASA have emphasized for years that Nibiru doesn’t exist, we are ready to reveal the fact that it does exist. The truth is we have been tracking the object for at least a decade and it is definitely headed towards planet Earth. However, we are expecting a close flyby.”

However, the report was outed as being a fake, and people finally started to calm down, safe in the knowledge that no collision would be happening. Or so they thought… The false report, originally published by News4KTLA, then went on to claim that Caltech researcher, Randall Smith, had responded to NASA’s (fake) warning with his own (fake) predictions:

“For NASA to minimize the threat to our earth by calling it a ‘close flyby’ is insulting to our research. We have concrete evidence that proves Nibiru is headed straight for earth with a collision that will destroy life as we know it. NASA is just trying to avoid mass panic and chaos within our world. But we all deserve to know that our days are numbered.”

However, the truth is that NASA has never issued any such warning. In fact, NASA scientist, Dr David Morrison has often openly rejected any idea of the “rogue planet”. He is the only major NASA scientist to speak out against the phenomenon that has been causing a stir online for many years. Morrison has consistently stated that no such incident will occur, along with other credible scientists such as Professor Brian Cox, who, in 2012, tweeted: “If anyone else asks me about “Nibiru” the imaginary bullsh*t planet I will slap them around their irrational heads with Newton’s Principia.” However, despite major scientists rejecting the idea, many still believe that doomsday is still near, especially religious groups. Christian numerologists are confident that an apocalypse will occur on September 23, 2017. This is based on verses in Luke 21: 25 to 26, which seems to corroborate with recent events, such as the solar eclipse and Hurricane Harvey. For example:

“25: There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.”

Meanwhile, conspiracy theorists are rich in the belief that NASA is hiding the truth. They believe that there is sufficient evidence to prove the arrival of “Planet X”. For example, when the rogue planet is approaching, it will pull Earth slightly off its axis, which will in turn result in severe earthquakes and storms. Conspiracy theorists are using recent freak weather as proof of this. However, NASA calmly insist that there is no threat, writing on their website: “Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than four billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat.” So, it’s time to invest in a lot of tinned food and hide out in your cellar, or, live out your life as normal and hope the scientists have it right.
