The FBI is decreasing to turn over files associated to its examination of previous Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’ s e-mails by arguing an absence of public interest in the matter.

Ty Clevenger, a lawyer in New York City, submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) demand in March of 2016 requesting for a range of files from the FBI and the Justice Department, consisting of correspondence exchanged with Congress about the Clinton e-mail examination.

But in a letter sent today and gotten by Fox News, the head of the FBI’ s Records Management Division informed Clevenger that the bureau has “ identified you have not adequately showed that the general public’ s interest in disclosure outweighs individual privacy interests of the topic.&rdquo

“ Therefore, records concerning your topic are kept pursuant to FOIA exemptions, ” David M. Hardy of the FBI’ s Records Management Division informed Clevenger.

Clinton, the Democratic governmental candidate in 2016, was examined by the FBI for utilizing a personal e-mail address and server to deal with categorized details while functioning as secretary of state.

In July 2016, then-FBI Director James Comey notoriously called Clinton’ s email plan “ incredibly negligent ” though he chose versus advising criminal charges.

He particularly requested for all files arising from a September 6, 2016 recommendation to the Justice Department from then-House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz, a Utah Republican.

At the time, Chaffetz asked the department to “ figure out and examine whether Secretary Clinton or her specialists and workers breached statues that restrict damage of records, blockage of congressional questions, and concealment or cover of proof product to a congressional examination.”

On Aug. 8, the FBI asked Clevenger to information why the general public would be interested.

“ If you look for disclosure of any existing records on this basis, you need to show that the general public interest in disclosure outweighs individual privacy interests, ” the letter specified. “ In this regard, you need to reveal that the general public interest looked for is a considerable one, which the inquired is most likely to advance that interest.”

Clevenger revealed shock at the demand.

“ Frankly, I am shocked I ought to need to describe why my demand relates to a matter of public interest, ” Clevenger composed in an Aug. 11 letter to the FBI.

He mentioned how Clinton was the Democratic candidate for president of the United States, a previous secretary of state and a previous senator.
